BCCB Super League 6 July, 2010 - Bhutan Telecom (BT) stormed into the semi-finals on July 4, defeating Youth XI by six wickets in the ongoing BCCB super league cricket tournament in Thimphu.
Youth XI chose to bat after winning the toss and started off poorly. BT’s opening bowlers, Tandin Wangchuk, and Sherub broke the back of Youth XI early, by sending their seven top order batsmen back to the pavilion, with just 55 runs on the board.
Number 7 batsman Rafikal raised some hope for Youth XI, when he hit a quickfire 42 runs off 22 balls, before he was bowled out by Tashi, who took three wickets in all.
Youth XI knocked 97 off the bat, with 12 coming in extras, to set a target of 109 runs for BT. Tandin took 4 wickets, followed by Sherab and Tashi with 3 wickets each.
With a small total to chase, Youth XI was desperate for early wickets. Their opening bowlers took the opening pair for 23 runs. That brought team captain Dorji and man in form Jigme Singye to the centre. Together, they put on 66 runs before getting out.
Tandin, along with Dechen, contributed 12 runs to finish off the match. Youth XI’s Dulal took 3 wickets for 17 runs. Rafikal was declared man of the match for his 42 runs and 1 wicket.
In the other match, team Vibes thrashed BEC United to keep their hopes alive for a semi-final berth.
BEC opted to bat first, but the decision proved quite expensive for the team. They quickly lost 4 wickets for just 11 runs. BEC’s middle order batsman, Baganath, rattled off 45 runs from 17 balls, to set up a competitive score for his team.
BEC United managed to set a 91-run target. Sampath was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, followed by Thinley Jamtsho and Khosi with 3 wickets each.
Vibes aggressive opening batman Thinley Jamtsho smacked 48 runs before he was bowled by Baganath in the 8th over. Vibes took only 11 overs to wrap up the game.
Thinley Jamtsho was named the man of match for his 48 runs and 3 wickets.
Vibes will play BEC on Saturday, while Rigsum will play BTCL on Sunday, to decide for the top place in group A.
